Q. What is the Conservancy’s mission and where does it work?
A. The Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization that works to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Eastern Long Island Sound’s marine area as well as the land on Fishers Island itself.

Q. How is the Conservancy funded?
A. Since the Conservancy’s founding in 1985, it has been supported by the financial generosity of its members. On-going activities and new initiatives are funded by the Conservancy with several members partially or totally underwriting projects of interest to them. The continuous growth and the on-going strength of the Conservancy are made possible by its loyal and supportive membership.

Q. How can I help?
A. There are several ways to support the Conservancy’s efforts. First, please pick up or report any litter found on beaches and report to the President or a board member any beach erosion caused by trucks or off-road vehicles, other environmental degradations, pollution threats or fishing violations. The Conservancy welcomes you to become a member or make a financial donation to support the Conservancy’s efforts.

Q. What should I do when I see wild cats?
A. Please do not feed or house these cats. Read about our Feral Cat Initiative on this website and contact 788-5515.

Q. What should I do if I have identified a mosquito breeding ground?
A. Please read about our Mosquito Control Initiative on this website and contact the Mosquito Control line at 788-7130.

Q. What should I do if I have or find hazardous waste?
A. Please pay attention to notices around the island as to when Hazardous Waste Days occur, or call the Transfer Station at 788-5515 to find out dates.

Q. What should I do if I see litter on Fishers Island’s coastal shore?
A. This is a perfect opportunity to support our mission and pick-up trash. However, if it is a large problem, please contact FIDCO at 788-7234 if the problem is located on the island’s East End. Please contact the Highway Department at 788-5544 if the problem is on the island’s West End.

Q. Am I allowed to have fires on the beach?
A. With the permission of the New York State Troopers. Please call 788-7828 to request permission. Always remember to have a bucket of water ready near the fire.

Q. How can I learn about organic or greener gardening practices on Fishers Island?
A. The Fishers Island Library is a source of organic and greener gardening information.

Q. What do I do if I have or suspect a septic problem?
A. Please call your local contractor.

Q. What do I do if I have an invasive species problem on my property?
