Charles Dutka wins Edwin Horning Research Grant
On Wednesday, March 25, 2009, Charles Dutka, a 12th grade student at the Fishers Island School, was named the first recipient of the Edwin Horning Research Grant for Environmental Conservation, awarded by the Fishers Island Conservancy. Charles received the $300 grant for his project on a household incinerator designed to burn cleanly and efficiently, and to defer oil cost by preheating water in a domestic hot water heater. The project functioned as designed, and won a 2nd honors award at the Connecticut State Science Fair. Charles also received an award from Northeast Utilities for his project.
